Qualities of the technical 3D-printing ceramics

Metallic machine components wear over time, for example gears, due to high mechanical stress and heat development. To improve their lifecycle machine components should be manufactured from a heat-resistant material. Here the technical ceramics manufactured in 3D-printing by Lithography based Ceramic Manufacturing (LCM) are recommended as they are more heat-resistant, more robust and more powerful than other materials.

Examples of components for which the qualities of technical 3D-printing ceramics play an extraordinarily important role

Electrical insulation at high wear resistance: important for sensors

In the development of sensors qualities like high wear resistance and electrical insulation play a leading role as they are sensible components exposed to high stresses. For example, they have to control the flow, pressure and temperatures in oil and gas pipelines permanently, reliably and precisely.

No softening or flowing at high temperatures: important for precision parts

Beyond temperatures of 1000 °C, metals are hardly permanently usable. Here the world of technical ceramic components begins resistant to operation temperatures of 1600 °C or more. Even at highest application temperatures they are stable even in the ultra-high vacuum. Thereby the technical ceramics offer the advantage of not flowing or softening. They dispose of a so-called dimensional stability playing an important role in precision parts for the laboratory equipment, too.

High mechanical resilience: important for flanges and screws

The plant and mechanical engineering sector demands high requirements on materials. In this sector, too, the technical 3D-printing ceramics are highly important because in addition to a high mechanical resilience and wear resistance a good thermal conductivity as well as an electrical and thermal insulation are required. Due to the specific qualities of 3D high-performance ceramics, standard components like washers, screws and flanges as well as spare parts are manufactured from this high-performance material.
