Chloroprene CR seals

General

Chloroprene rubber, also often called chlorobutadiene rubber, polychloroprene or simply chloroprene CR, is a high-quality synthetic rubber built up from chloroprene monomers. There are many polymerisates of the monomer chloroprene significantly differing from the structures of their polymers. The variety of elastomers is increased by CR compounds with other types of rubber. Steinbach AG, for example, manufactures high-quality insulating mats from a special CR compound according to the VDE DIN standard DIN EN 61111, the mats being flame-resistant (DIN 75200).

Properties

Chloroprene rubber acts electrically insulating and is resistant to mineral oil, sulphuric acid and ozone. Moreover, the elastic material shows a generally good resistance to chemicals and ageing as well as a high flame resistance. However, it is not resistant to fuels. The mechanical properties of CR compounds, in general, are better than those of most other types of synthetic rubber.

Range of use and areas of application

Typical applications for chloroprene rubber are insulations for live operating resources. Additionally, flat seals can be made out of CR rubber. Further areas of application and use are cable sheaths, abrasion-resistant pump tubes, conveyor belts, drive belts and other technical rubber goods.
